  • Most travel is designed for consumption. Ours is designed for relationship—grounded in community, shaped by place, and created for those seeking something more intentional, connected, and real.

As queer women of color, this work is rooted in creating space for those who haven’t always felt reflected in the surf, travel, and wellness industries. And, in making sure each retreat directly contributes to local projects and supports need-based access for students and members of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.

  • Who are these retreats for?
These retreats are for people seeking something more intentional, connected, and grounded—especially those who have felt out of place in traditional travel or wellness spaces.

    Is there a minimum age?
Yes, all guests must be 18+.

    Is this retreat gender-inclusive?
Yes! This is an all-genders space. We welcome people of all gender identities and expressions, and are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, safe, and able to show up as themselves.

Will I feel out of place if I come alone?
You might feel a little uncomfortable at first, and that’s okay. Many of us are navigating that same feeling, which is why our space is designed to support different ways of showing up, with connection that feels natural, not forced.

I’m more introverted or unsure about group travel. Will this still feel right?Yes. There’s no pressure to be “on” and our experience is built for both connection and solitude. Just to show up in the way that feels natural to you.

    What’s the typical group size?
We keep groups small and intentional to allow for deeper connection and more thoughtful engagement with local communities. The maximum number of guests is 12 people.

  • Where will we be staying?
For our Playa Negra retreat, we’ll be staying at a private coastal home nestled between the ocean and jungle in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It’s a short walk from the surf break and minutes from town and other beaches.

What types of accommodations are available?
We offer a range of options depending on your preference and budget, including private suites, shared rooms, and a unique geodome experience.

Private suites and the geodome are reserved for two (2) people traveling together.

All spaces are designed to feel comfortable, simple, and connected to the surrounding environment!

    Can I choose my room?
Yes! You’ll select your preferred accommodation during booking. Availability is limited and on a first-come basis, so we recommend booking early for the best options!

    Can I request a roommate?
Yes! If you’re traveling with someone, you can request to share a room during booking. If you’re coming solo, we’ll thoughtfully pair guests in shared spaces.

We will do our best to accommodate your request based on availability.

    What amenities are included?
The home includes shared living spaces, a pool, indoor + outdoor kitchen, WiFi, firepit and outdoor areas designed for rest and gathering. Full details will be shared prior to your trip.

Is it close to the beach and town?
Yes! The house is about a 5-minute walk to Playa Negra’s surf break, a short drive to Playa Avellanas, and within walking distance or a quick ride to town for restaurants, shops, and essentials.

Can I join without lodging if I live locally?
We do not currently offer an option to participate without lodging. However, the local community will be invited to select workshops + farm days!

  • Do I need to know how to surf?
No! All levels are welcome, including beginners, as well as anyone who just wants to play in the ocean and enjoy other activities Costa Rica has to offer.

What if I’ve never surfed before, but want to learn?
You’ll be supported by experienced surfers along the way. The focus is on learning and play, not performance!

You’ll also have the opportunity to add lessons onto your experience if you’d like more formal sessions with a local instructor.

Will there be waves for different experience levels?
Yes! There are a few different breaks nearby, so we’re able to meet people where they’re at.

Playa Avellanas has a mix of beach and reef breaks with softer, more forgiving waves that are great for beginners, intermediates, and longboarders.

Playa Negra is a more powerful right-hand reef break known for faster, more hollow waves and barrels, generally better suited for experienced surfers.

Depending on the conditions, we may also surf Little Hawaii, a well-known right-hand reef break that can get bigger and more powerful on swell. On smaller days it can be playful and fun, but on larger swells it’s better suited for more experienced surfers.

We’ll choose where to surf each day based on the group, the tides, and how the ocean is looking!

  • What’s included in the itinerary?
Each retreat includes a thoughtfully curated mix of surf, local experiences, and time to connect with yourself, each other, and place. Depending on the day, this may include:

    – Guided surf sessions, coaching, and workshops
    – Ocean education and relationship-building practices
    – Local excursions such as waterfalls, a cooking class, honey farm tour, or seasonal sea turtle release
    – A farm project visit and workshop on traditional ecological knowledge
    – Visits to local artisans and markets

    Are meals included?
Daily organic local breakfast and either lunch or dinner are included (depending on the itinerary), along with snacks, coffee, and drinks. All meals can be adapted to dietary needs.

For meals not held at the house, we encourage supporting local businesses and enjoying the local food culture.

    Will there be free time?
Yes! While the retreat includes a full schedule of experiences, we intentionally build in space to rest by the pool, surf, explore, or spend time on your own.

Can I customize my experience or add additional activities?
Yes, we’re happy to help tailor your time! Each part of the itinerary is intentionally curated and encouraged, but you’re always free to move at your own pace. You’re welcome to opt out of anything or add additional experiences.
