Who We Are

“As we work to heal the Earth, the Earth heals us.”

-Robin Wall Kimmerer

Through soil building, native habitat restoration, and shared learning, we build pathways for healing and collective wellness.

Our Pillars

Surfing is Indigenous.

First Peoples around the world rode waves as a spiritual practice, and we honor that legacy by cultivating relationship with place, guided by reciprocity, caring for living ecosystems, and accountability to the communities who hold these waters.

OUR STORY

Sea + Soil began in 2019 as a few surfers growing food together in a backyard garden. What followed became a grassroots community built through shared learning and collective care, donating thousands of pounds of fresh food to local, underserved families. Over time, that work expanded into community gardening, native habitat restoration, ecological education, and partnerships that support Indigenous food sovereignty and local regenerative agriculture.

Today, we carry this work forward through our community programs and through Sea + Soil Impact Travel, expressed in our Regenerative Retreats – immersive surf experiences shaped in relationship with place, grounded in reciprocity, and guided by community-led stewardship along the coastlines that shape surf culture.

Meet the Team

  • Lex Weinstein

    Founder | Executive Director

Lex Weinstein is a Cuban-Jewish American surfer, storyteller, and spiritual ecologist working at the intersection of surfing, sustainability, and community care.

After completing her Permaculture Design Certification in 2013, she spent time homesteading on the North Shore of Kaua’i, weaving together farming, surfing, and land-based learning.

That experience became the foundation for Sea + Soil and set her on a path of building a future centered in environmental justice, relationship to place, and collective healing.

  • Andrea Poveda

    Co-Founder | Director of Impact

Andrea Poveda is a Mexican-Cuban American impact strategist who believes deeply in the power of relationship—to land, water, and one another.

For nearly a decade, she has built and led impact programs across global nonprofits, mission-driven companies, and the professional surfing industry, translating values into action, while strengthening partnerships, community relationships, and environmental outcomes at scale.

At Sea + Soil, Andrea has helped evolve the organization’s work by shaping its impact travel program and building systems that foster growth.
